2020 Workplace Inclusion Charter

As the Bow Valley recovers from the economic impacts of covid-19, we’re making it even easier for inclusive businesses to be recognized for their efforts.

The 2020 Bow Valley Workplace Inclusion Charter has no tiers. Simply demonstrate completion of any 6 of the following commitments by the end of the year to be recognized as a 2020 Workplace Inclusion Champion.

1 - Distribute health and safety information in 3 or more languages spoken by your team members
(Plain English + 2).

2 - Post health and safety signage in 3 or more languages spoken by your team members
(Plain English + 2).

3 - Use pictures, videos, & demonstrations of safe work procedures


4 - Identify employees’ first languages – including for those who are fluent in English.

5 - Collect employees’ current cell phone numbers. Make cell phone communication a part of your emergency response plan.

6 - Create standard operating procedure(s) to embed referrals to settlement services in re-launch, onboarding, and AINP processes.


7 - Translate, Convert to plain language, and/or hold meetings with LANGUAGE interpretation to explain: Layoff, layoff extension, recall and termination notices; safe work procedures, onboarding packages, benefits information, important all staff messages.

8 - Provide staff access to computers and basic technical support upon request (ex. help turning on computer or opening an email program.)

9 - Send attached memo on English language learning to leaders in all departments.

11 - Enroll your leadership team in anti-racism, bias, diversity, inclusion, and/or intercultural competency training.

  1. Settlement Services in the Bow Valley
    Offers public and group workshops on cultural awareness as well as custom, on-site training. Jeanie is a certified cross-cultural trainer with in depth knowledge of the Bow Valley.

  2. Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS)
    Offers customized workshops exploring the concept of cultural awareness, sensitivity and competency. Participants examine their own cultural values, beliefs, and attitudes, their work environment and work practices to become more conscious and culturally responsive in their daily interactions with others
