Intercultural Competence

Enroll one leader in Intercultural Competence Facilitator Training Program or equivalent and share what you learned with your team.

Why this Commitment?

One of the first steps to creating a diverse, inclusive, resilient workplace is to train key leaders in the skills they’ll need to guide and support your Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) journey.

The Bow Valley Intercultural Competence Facilitator Training (ICFT) Program helps build intercultural and anti-racism awareness and competence in your organization from the inside out. In addition to intercultural knowledge, awareness, and skills, the training includes facilitation techniques to help share that knowledge throughout your organization, reducing reliance on external training programs. The program is offered on at no cost to participants, typically just once a year. Participants report:

The Intercultural Facilitator Course was very engaging with relevant and important subject matter.

The facilitators are experts in their fields with a lot of real life experience to share.

The program provides a great framework for employers to address organization specific needs regarding intercultural workplaces.

You will finish this course inspired to make change with the tools to share these important lessons in your workplace!

Evaluation Plan

To complete this commitment:

  • Step 1: Enroll at least one workplace leader (from Human Resources or Senior Management) in the 2024 Intercultural Competence Facilitator Training Program or one of the training opportunities listed in Resources (please contact bvip@banff.ca if you’d like to enroll in a program that is not listed.)

  • Step 2: Host internal training to share information from your intercultural competence program with others in the organization by December 31, 2024. This training could include: a ‘lunch and learn’ workshop, a presentation at employee onboarding, a presentation to workplace leaders, or equivalent. If you are unsure about whether your planned training meets this commitment’s requirements, please contact bvip@banff.ca before .

In January 2024, we will ask to see:

  • A Certificate of Completion from your chosen training program

  • Evidence that an internal training session was held by December 31, 2024
