The Commitment:

  • Add a statement to your Employee Handbook or other onboarding documents explaining that interpretation is available upon request for meetings that relate to onboarding, tax forms, health and safety information, or performance evaluation, and

  • Provide interpretation upon request for those specific meetings.

Why This Commitment?

These meetings all involve very important and usually very complex information. Some of this information is difficult to understand, even for fluent English speakers. If employees miss this information or misunderstand it, there can be many consequences for both your company and your team members.

By offering interpretation on request, employees can understand the information in languages they prefer. This helps to ensure that all team members can understand important information and reduces the risk of miscommunication.

How To Complete This Commitment (Evaluation Plan)

In October 2022, we’ll ask you to provide a copy of your Employee Handbook or onboarding document. If it contains the provided statement (see Resources) as written or with minimal changes, your organization will receive credit for this commitment.

    “If your first language is not English, we encourage you to request interpretation for meetings related to training, health and safety information, performance evaluation, or tax forms. Interpreters help people who speak different languages understand each other. They must follow rules and they will not share what you say with anyone else. If you would like interpretation, please contact [organization contact details].”

        Kung hindi Ingles ang una mong wika, hinihikayat ka naming humiling ng interpretasyon para sa mga pulong na may kaugnayan sa pagsasanay, impormasyong pangkalusugan at pangkaligtasan, pagsusuri sa pagganap, o mga form sa buwis. Tinutulungan ng mga tagapagsalin-ng wika ang mga taong nagsasalita ng iba-ibang wika na magkaintindihan.
