This session builds on the pre-recorded ‘Cognitive Bias and You’ session and will deepen participants' understanding of systemic inequity in organizations and society, particularly with an understanding of how systemic inequities create daily impact in the lives of people within equity-seeking groups inside our organization and our communities.

We will touch on a brief history of the systemic barriers in Canadian organizations, consider some practical takeaways on individual actions to respond to and resist systemic inequity, and briefly introduce the proprietary Meaningful Inclusion Matrix, and the 7 elements of meaningful inclusion in organizational settings.

Presenter:

Shereen Samuels (she/her), Principal, Samuels Consulting Group

Shereen has been working at the intersection of equity and inclusion, community development, and organizational change management for more than 20 years. Her lived experience as a queer Black first-generation immigrant woman of colour has provided a nuanced range of perspective on issues related to identity and inclusion, and she believes passionately in approaching EDI changework as a process not only of tearing down inequitable systems and structures, but also of building clearly imagined better workplaces and societies.
